OUTLINE OF EVENTS LEADING TO THE FORMATION OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF PASCOE VALE
As at 21.04.1976
In the 4 or 5 yeas prior to the present date, several suggestions were made by District governors and presidents of the Rotary Club of Coburg that a second club be formed in the Coburg Municipality. Some preliminary surveys were looked at but no definite action was taken until Rotary Year 1975/76 when it was decided that another club be formed within the same territorial area as the rotary Club of Coburg (the Municipality of Coburg) and that no territory be ceded. Past President (Rotary Club of Coburg), Carl Veruy was appointed and a survey made and submitted to District governor (District 979), Frank Ruler on 12.2.76. DG
F Ruler with the blessing of RI approved the survey and gave his approval on the 24.3.76.
On 21.4.76 a Planning Meeting will be held at 8 pm at the Presbyterian Church Hall (the meeting place of the Rotary Club of Coburg). Those invited to attend are the:

Proposed Rotary Club of Pascoe Vale Planning Meeting held at 8 pm Presbyterian Church Halll 21 st April 1976
In Attendance: 7 Rotarian as listed above,
The meeting was chaired by District Governor Special Representative PP Carl Verey who outlined the progress to date, the Requirements to form a club and tabled a list of persons who may be likely members of the club. The list included 8 Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Coburg Vic:
Alf Diggerson, Jim Essealmont, Sam Gandolfo, Eric Granger, Alan Head, Daryl O’Brien, Mike Reiner, and Jim Rose.
It is likely that the other Coburg Rotarians may elect to transfer and decision to elect by the above 8 is not firm.
To form a nucleus of the new club 3 existing Rotarians: Jim Esselmont, Alf Diggerson and Sam Gandolfo plus 3 other prospective members were selected. Until certain gentlemen have been interviewed the latter 3 names are not yet available. It was resolved that the Organisation Meeting of the new Club be held on Monday 31st of May 1976 which will the 2oth Anniversary of the Organisation meeting of the Rotary Club of Coburg on 31.5.56.
At an informal meeting after the usual Coburg Rotary Luncheon Meeting on 5 th May 1976, the following indicated their acceptance of invitation to become members of the Rotary Club of Pascoe Vale:

Frank Drever, Butcher, Bell St P.V.S.
It was decided a meeting of those 4 plus D.G. Special Rep. Carl Verey, PP Jim Esselemont and VP Joh Curtain would be held at the home of Jim Esselmont on Thursday 6 th May at 8 pm. This meeting was interrupted shortly after commencement due to the sudden heart attack of Jim Esselmont who was taken to hospital. Although a rather emotional Situation followed; the meeting was continued at John Curtain’s Office, and lists of names of prospective members were reviewed with the prospect of interviews.
It was decided four above prospective members and Coburg members transferring to Pascoe Vale sit at same table(s) next two Rotary meeting at Coburg to become well acquainted and sicus new club arrangements and activities.
Admittance Fee to be: $20.00
Subscription (Annual): $45.00
Suggested Catering Fee: $2.50
Organisation Meeting to be held in RSL Committee Room (no access to bar) at 8 pm 31 st May 1976.
Subsequent to the admission of Jim Esselmont to R.M. Hospital on 6 th May he was discharged and Tuesday 11th May, readmitted on 12 th May and died that morning. Funeral service Friday 14th attended by about 400 persons.
The Organisation Meeting was held as scheduled.
