Rogers Reserve redevelopment
ROTARY CLUB OF PASCOE VALE 20th ANNIVERSARY PROJECT
ROGERS RESERVE UPGRADE
The members of the Rotary Club of Pascoe Vale have agreed to a proposal to upgrade Rogers Reserve
Memorial Park for the benefit of the residents of Pascoe Vale in appreciation of the support given to the Rotary Club of Pascoe Vale over the last 20 years in providing assistance to those residents of our community of all ages who were in need of assistance, either financially or practically. In providing this support the residents enabled the Rotary Club to fulfil its creed of “Service Above Self” within the community.
This proposal was discussed with representatives of the Moreland Council over the period of December 1995
and January 1996 and covered the following:
● Upgrade of the existing memorial to remember not only those residents who enlisted in the Australian
Armed Forces in World War 1, but also those who enlisted and gave their lives in all other conflicts
that Australians subsequently served in. This upgrade of the memorial is believed to be not only a
memorial in terms of the Australia Remembers Project but would also serve as an educational tool for
the children of our residents.
● Provide additional recreational facilities such as additional seating and picnic tables to complement
the residents’ needs for additional recreation facilities in close proximity to the Pascoe Vale Swimming
pool.
As a result of the discussions with the Moreland Council representatives, approval in principle was given to
submission of a detailed layout and a costings breakdown being presented to Council. This would enable
Council to formally approve the project and allow them to review the proposal and identify areas in which they would be able to provide assistance from Council resources.
Attached is a copy of the prosed upgrade of the Rogers Reserve Memorial Park together with an estimate of
the cost should this be funded in its entirety by the Rotary Club of Pascoe Vale. It is the Major Projects
Committee intention to source donations-in-kind as well as monetary where-ever possible from other sources to reduce the overall burden on the Club. Consequently, the total cost of the projects as shown will be reduced. Further, whereever possible it is the committee’s intention to utilise the resources of the local skill Share organisations to further reduce the cost of this project.
Financial support for this project will also be requested from the Pascoe Vale Settlement Trust.
Discussions have been held with Mr Kelvin Thompson, our local Member of Parliament, who has indicated his
support for the project and offered whatever assistance his position can provide. The next action is now to arrange a meeting with the Moreland City Council to present the proposal formally for their approval. It is panned to do this immediately following the Board’s approval of the project and option selection.
