Shell Livewire aims to encourage young people between the ages of 18 and 28 to successfully establish their own businesses.
Applicants prepare and submit a business plan which is judged by the Livewire committee in each state or territory. Prizes to the value of $12,000 are made available by Shell in each state and territory. Each state winner will receive $7,000 and go on to the Australian final where the prize is an overseas trip to England.
Rotary clubs provide mentors who will be matched with approved Livewires. The students prepare a curriculum vitae and job application as if they were actually applying for an advertised vacancy. The students present for an interview at the school with a member of the Rotary club where they are given feedback and advice on their performance so that they give themselves the best opportunity in real life job applications.
