ROTARACT REPORT
The Rotaract Club lost the services of its President and Secretary just two months after the club was chartered This put the Club into a position of disorder. However, through the tremendous efforts of Vice President David D’Aprano, who stepped into the chair, and his team, we regrouped.
The next ten months were spent mainly getting to know each other and also understanding more about Rotary. The Club members attended every District Function and Assembly where the opportunity arose to meet Rotarians from other Clubs, listen to views and ideas and put forward, and offer few of their own.
It is my belief that the future is bright and encouraging with the experience everyone has gained.
To my Rotary Club I say thank you for the support you have given me and the Rotarians over the past twelve months, especially Roy Turner (who has hardly missed a meeting) Manfred Haarburger and Bruno DÁprano. It is always encouraging to know they are there.
To president John Lawless and the Board of Directors I say also thank you, not only for yoursu pport but also for your confidence in me by allowing me to do things my way.
Our Rotaract Club has been involved in many projects throughout the year. By far the most important was when members volunteered to combine with the Greensborough Rotaract Club to host the Sayonara Party for the Japanese Rotaract team. This was the first time they were involved in hosting a District function and for a club which is less than 12 months old it was a big task. I am sure the Rotarians who attended the evening would agree with me when I say “Well done’. It was a fantastic night, well programmed and with good fellowship.
I would like to pause and mention the Rotaract club members. When David D’Aprano took over the reins he recognised the situation immediately – young club with virtually no experience. He led the club by example and not by delegation. He is a young man with natural leadership qualities. As for the team behind him, I cannot speak highly enough of them. Young men and women who are dedicated to bettering humanity through international understanding and service. I am proud to have been associated with all of them.
