Our club's vocational work

Vocational Service focuses on empowering people to use their skills and expertise to make a positive impact in their communities. It encourages high ethical standards in the workplace, supports career development, and promotes the value of all professions in serving society.

Rotary Vocational Service helps bridge the gap between professional life and community service. It’s a great way to turn your everyday work into a force for good!

Here are some of our vocational programs.

Basic Car Maintenance Workshops for younger drivers and adult drivers

In 2025, we began running our successful workshops. We hold two classes: younger drivers aged 16-24 and adults 18+. We aim to provide participants with basic skills and knowledge to maintain their car and to be aware of safety considerations.

Topics include:

  • Safe practices when maintaining your car
  • Basic engine maintenance such as checking fluids and topping up
  • Tyre maintenance and changing a tyre
  • Safety practices such as what to do if your car breaks down
  • Understanding your engine

and much more.

Barista Basics Workshops

In collaboration with Genovese Coffee in Coburg, our club organises workshops where participants learn the basic tasks of a barista.

This four hour course includes theory and lots of hands-on coffee making that will provide some experience to apply for a job in a cafe. The course involves:

  • setting up your workspace
  • calibrating the grinder
  • frothing the milk
  • keeping your workspace and machine clean
  • tasting and making different coffees

Participants also receive a Barista Basics participation certificate for use on a CV.

VCE mock interviews

An important project we run each year is our mock interviews. Regardless of the capacity and preparedness of the student being interviewed, we are left with the feeling they have benefited from the process and the feedback we give them.

With running our mock interview program, we fulfill the objective of giving the students more confidence than they would otherwise have when it comes to the real thing. In doing so, we have played a significant role in their career planning, awareness of the world of work, and job readiness.

We currently run mock interviews with Antonine College and Pascoe Vale Girls College. If you would like to chat about mock interviews at your school, please get in touch with us.
