Currently (2013) drowning deaths are at a rate of 26 per 100.000. The rate in Australia is 1.27 per 100,000
Support from local people in Vietnam is critical to the success of WSV programs. This includes translating, interpreting, touring, transporting, socialising and welcoming.
Education and training of teachers of swimming and water safety in Vietnam
Water Safety Vietnam has liaised with AUSTSWIM to ensure that courses delivered by our personnel (WSV) follow closely with the rules and regulations of that organisation before we issue successful candidates with an AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Certificate. The issuing of such awards is monitored extremely thoroughly to ensure quality standards are maintained.
AUSTWIM requires each graduate to be re-certified every 3 years.

WSV volunteers assisted local teachers at St Josephs, Bien Hoa in Dong Nai Province. The program is now entirely run by local swim teachers.
WSF Trainers conducted sessions with Physical Education students from Hong Bang University and University of Physical Education and Sport. This will ensure that the teaching of swimming is within the school curriculum.
WSV volunteers will assist the summer swim program in Xuyen Moc District.
Vung Tan local education authority will continue the program started in 2015 with the assistance of WSV volunteers.
WSV volunteers will assist local teachers in Than Thach in Ben Tre again this year.
WSV will continue its kindergarten program at Ho Tram Community Pool commenced last year.
New programs have been introduced in Phan Thiet and Vinh Long Province.
