Guest speaker: Rotarian Lesley McCarthy

At our last meeting, our club had the pleasure of hosting Lesley McCarthy of the Rotary Club of Flemington Kensington.

Lesley delivered an inspiring presentation on the RORP (Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds) project. RORP is a remarkable initiative that rescues decommissioned playgrounds from local councils, and sends them to communities overseas where play spaces are desperately needed.

Lesley shared stories of how these playgrounds, that would otherwise be discarded, are transformed into hubs of joy and opportunity for children in developing regions. Beyond the fun and excitement they bring, the playgrounds support physical development, social interaction, and community connection. It was uplifting to hear how Rotary clubs collaborate across districts, nations, and logistics teams to make each shipment possible.

Lesley also highlighted the hands-on spirit of the project: from volunteers who dismantle and prepare the equipment, to the partnerships that ensure each playground reaches the community that needs it most.

We are grateful for the presentation and for the dedication of Rotarians involved in RORP. Our club looks forward to exploring opportunities to support the project!
