Farewell to Chris: A Rotarian who lives “Service Above Self”
This month we say farewell—not goodbye—to someone who has left an enduring mark on our Rotary club and to many of us personally. Chris Lang has long been the embodiment of our motto, “Service Above Self,” and his departure brings with it a mix of gratitude and admiration despite the somewhat questionable choice of footy team.
From the moment Chris joined our club, he brought with him a spirit of generosity that seemed effortless. Whenever anyone had a question, Chris would step forward with clarity and support. His patience, kindness, and steady presence have guided many of us more times than we can count.
That’s why it felt particularly special and meaningful when, at his farewell BBQ lunch, Chris was presented with the Rotary Royce Abbey Award. This honour is reserved for those who show exceptional commitment, enthusiasm, and dedication to Rotary and it could not have been more fitting. It was a moment that captured the admiration we all hold for him and the gratitude we feel for the countless ways he has elevated our club.
As Chris begins his next chapter, our club is better because he was part of it. Though we will feel his absence, his dedication to service will continue to inspire our projects, our fellowship, and our commitment to serve.
Chris, thank you for your leadership, your kindness, your selflessness, and your remarkable dedication. You have inspired us and helped mentor new members, and you will always remain a valued part of our Rotary family here in 3044.
Wishing you and your dear family joy, adventure, and continued purpose in all that comes next!
