Brewing Opportunity: Barista Basics Workshop
Our Club recently hosted a Barista Basics workshop designed to give people hands-on experience and practical skills in coffee making. In collaboration with Genovese Coffee in Coburg, these four hour workshops teach participants theory and lots of hands-on coffee making that will give them some experience to apply for a job in a cafe.
The course involves:
- setting up your workspace
- calibrating the grinder
- frothing the milk
- keeping your workspace and machine clean
- tasting and making different coffees
Participants also receive a Barista Basics participation certificate for their CV.
Held at Genovese Coffee, the workshop was led by Simon James, who guided the participants through the fundamentals. The attendees had the chance to get behind the machine, practice techniques, and ask questions.
For some of the participants who attend our Barista Basics workshops, this is their first introduction to the world of hospitality. We’re proud to support young people in gaining skills that open doors.
This Barista Basics workshop is just one of the many ways our Rotary Club is working to empower and uplift the youth in our community.
With thanks to Genovese Coffee, Simon James and Pascoe Vale Rotarian Pat for organising the event.
