2025 ‘Monty’ Montgomery Community Policing Awards

On the 1 st of May our Club and Police Officers from the Merri-bek Police Service Area met at the Northern Golf Club for the 14th annual “Monty” Montgomery Community Policing Awards.

The awards are named in memory of Ivor “Monty” Montgomery, who passed in 2023. Monty was a Paul Harris Fellow, Past President and esteemed member of our Club whose passion for the force derived through his membership of the police force in England.

Fourteen years ago Monty had discussions with the then Moreland Area Commander in regard to establishing an annual Community Policing Award.

This evening was another huge success owing to the attendance of members of our Club and the many police officers that took the time out of their busy schedule.

Other notable attendees were, District Governor for District 9790, Stephen O’Connell and his wife Carol, District Governor Elect Emma Davis, Superintendent and Friend of Rotary Lorna McCarthy, Superintendent Wayne Cheeseman, Inspector Andrew Makarkis Merri-bek, Local Area Commander and members of our Club, MLA for Pascoe Vale Anthony Cianflone and Councillor of the City of Merri-bek Oscar Yildiz and Monty’s daughter Dawn and Peter Heavey.

With thanks to the nominees, the following officers were presented with plaques and vouchers:

Recipient of the 14 the “Monty” Montgomery Community Policing Award: Sergeant Andrew
